BET's parent company, Viacom, announced last week that they're going after the Grown & Sexy crowd of African Americans. The New York Times reported that the media giant would be starting Centric to appeal to the 25-to-54 demographic that advertisers love.
Viacom didn't mention whether BET J -- the music-intensive offshoot of the network -- would be affected by the formation of Centric. Look for it to debut in October.
BET, which is available in 89 million homes, is the longest running network targeted primarily at African Americans. Its main competitor is the Comcast and Radio One-owned TV One, which is available in about 47 million homes.
